Women in Action

Meetings are the 2nd Monday of each month
We are a friendly group of ladies of all ages that meet together to enjoy each others company and work on projects.

Some of the projects we have done during the last year are planning the church rummage sale in November ‘09. Then we had a great evening of fun making Christmas gift jars.   We filled mason jars with the necessary dry ingredients to make cookies or soups. These make great Christmas gifts.

 Prayer Shawl Ministry
Thursdays 1:00 PM.

Our prayer shawl ministry is two years old and during this time we have donated approximately 59 items—prayer shawls and baby blankets. We have also knit and crocheted a number of scarves and hats for our Church’s Christmas in November project.

The prayer shawls are given to people who are in need of comfort and healing; this includes members, their friends, neighbors and relatives.  The baby blankets are given to newly baptized babies in our church . We have expanded our boundaries lately and have given shawls to Monarch Hospice and the VA hospital. Baby blankets were also given to PHD in Palatine and some were sent to South Africa. Additionally, we just mailed a box of scarves to the Red Scarf Project of the Orphan Foundation of America. They will be distributed to orphans 18 and older out of the foster care system. They will receive them on Valentines Day.   Our boundaries keep expanding and we now are planning to make Lap Wraps for wounded military service members. They are about 45”x45” inches—big enough to fit over a wheelchair. They are distributed to military hospitals and WTUs (Warrior Transition Unit) overseas.

Thank you to all who have donated yarn, needles, and completed scarves and shawls. We welcome all who would like to join us by attending our Thursday afternoon group or working on projects at home. Our knitters and crocheters range in age from 6 1/2 years to 96 years of age. We are especially blessed to be knitting with our friends from Prince of Peace shawl group –they may attend our group and we attend theirs periodically.
